SINGAPORE on Monday conferred the prestigious Honorary Citizen Award to Professor Edward Holmes for his work in the biomedical industry here. The 70-year-old American, who is a specialist in biomedical research, received the award from President S R Nathan at the Istana. Prof Holmes was approached by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research to head its Translational and Clinical Sciences Group in 2006. He also helped to establish the Singapore Translational Research Investigator Award and Clinician Scientist Award, which have attracted top scientists such as United States cancer specialist Phillip Koeffler to Singapore. The Honorary Citizen Award is the highest recognition for non-Singaporeans who have contributed to the country's growth and development.
