HONG KONG: A prominent Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong has closed following a big drop in trade, reports said on Monday, as the city was hit badly by a radiation scare that saw diners desert Japanese produce. The high-end Yaegiku Japanese Cuisine in the southern Chinese city, one of Japan's key food export markets, became the first well-known restaurant forced to shut down since a massive 9.0-earthquake and tsunami hit Japan on March 11. Hong Kong was the first Asian economy to slap an import ban on a variety of Japanese food two weeks ago after radiation was found in vegetables from five prefectures near the Fukushima No 1 nuclear plant in Japan. "It's the smart thing to do," Yeung Koon-yat, owner of Yaegiku Japanese Cuisine said according to Chinese newspaper Apple Daily, saying the restaurant had closed on Friday.
