WHAT does good food have to do with coping with cancer? Plenty, it seems from the looks of the scrumptious homemade recipes provided by 12 cancer patients and their caregivers in Sharing Plates. The cookbook was put together by a team of final-year undergraduates of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University, in collaboration with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). It is also part of a campaign that aims to dispel myths that cancer patients cannot enjoy their meals and should stick to a restricted, bland diet. The easy-to-follow recipes, which include a modified healthier chicken curry, poached prawns and avocado dip and Cantonese soups, were vetted by NCCS principal pharmacist Chang Yok Ying.
