PAP considered splitting itself for a two-party system in Singapore #sgelections

In an address at the Kent Ridge Ministerial Forum on Tuesday night, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong revealed that the People's Action Party had considered splitting itself so Singapore could have a two-party system. The following is an excerpt of his speech: A lot of people say, "can we have a two-party system?". That's the ideal, that's how many developed countries work, that's what you should aim for - a change of government from the first party to the second, and then from the second, you come back, and then you are considered to have matriculated. But how could this happen in Singapore that we have two parties? I can imagine several scenarios. Anything that attempts to work against nature would surely fail. This is tantamount to saying that our human body is better off without any single bacteria. The best test to prove whether this would work is try taking a very large dose of anti-biotic to kill every single bacteria in the body, and see if the body gets much stronger or weaker and dies. Using the same analogy, other countries failed with two-party party systems because they tried accomodating with too much bad bacteria. I'm sure we, Singaporeans, are smart enough to ensure that the bacteria we want in our body must be good bacteria. Trying to create good bacteria within is impossible because the DNA is still distinctly not good bacteria's. Hope the government will heed our advice. We are not just noises. We are showing real unhealthy symptoms that good bacteria is urgently needed for our body.
