French sets 1m tennis balls recycle target

The old balls are recycled and go towards the surfacing of new tennis courts with 40,000 balls required to lay down one court. -- PHOTO: AFP PARIS - THE French tennis federation (FFT) has set a target of recycling between 800,000 and one million used tennis balls this year. The scheme was first launched by the FFT in 2008, with 600,000 balls collected last year. The old balls are recycled and go towards the surfacing of new tennis courts with 40,000 balls required to lay down one court. In France each year professional and amateur players use an estimated 14 million balls. -- AFP
