A law is needed to stop sale of phone numbers to marketers: Voices
Recently, I have been receiving numerous unwanted SMSes on my mobile phone, about spa promotions, air-con servicing and new property launches (the most common). I have called the senders and requested that they refrain from sending the messages to me. I have since found out that the senders purchased telephone lists from various marketing companies. I am amazed that marketing companies are permitted to make money by selling personal data without the individual's permission and it is also at our expense when we receive those SMSes. I believe this practice should be stopped. I therefore would like to urge the relevant government authorities to look into this matter and to pass a law to protect our privacy. I understand that many countries, such as Japan, already have such laws to protect the privacy of individuals. What can be done in Singapore to improve this situation?
