OF THE regular writers to The Straits Times' Forum page, 150 came together on Thursday night for a dialogue session hosted by The Straits Times editor Han Fook Kwang and The Straits Times Forum Page editor Yap Koon Hong. Speaking on the prerogative of The Straits Times in editing forum letters, Mr Han explained: 'We want to try and publish as many letters as possible in the limited space we have, so many times, we need to shorten your letter, many times we need to correct for grammar, and to make the points clearer.' While giving feedback on general issues that affect them or the community, some forum writers inadvertently end up being targeted and flamed online for expressing their opinions. The criticisms can sometimes be personal. 27-year-old Laurelle Ho and 23-year-old Oliver Michael are just two writers who have borne the brunt of such attacks. They share their storie...
