One dead, 11 injured in China mall blaze

Firemen put out a blaze on a large shopping mall in Xining city in northwest China's Qinghai province. -- PHOTO: AP BEIJING - AT LEAST one person was killed and 11 injured when a fire ravaged a shopping mall in the Chinese city of Xining on Saturday, state media said. The blaze was brought under control on Saturday night, with 17 people rescued from the building, the state-run Xinhua news agency said. Twelve people were hospitalised, three of them with serious injuries, and one of those later died, according to state broadcaster CCTV. The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon at the mall in a busy shopping street in the city, capital of northwest Qinghai province. It quickly spread around the building, fanned by strong wind, despite at least 50 fire trucks arriving to tackle the flames.
