S'pore pledges to help Japan

SINGAPORE: Singapore has pledged to work with the Japanese government to contribute to long-term reconstruction effort in the disaster-stricken areas of northeast Japan. The message was conveyed by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed during a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto, on the sidelines of a Special ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Meeting on Saturday in Jakarta. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said Mr Zainul reiterated Singapore's offer of further relief assistance to Japan and its readiness to work with the Japanese government. Mr Matsumoto thanked Singapore for the offer. Mr Zainul represented Singapore at the Special ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Meeting to express ASEAN's unity with Japan. The meeting was convened by Indonesia in its capacity as ASEAN Chair, in response to the earthquake and tsunami disaster ...
