A brief history in 'terms'

It took the human race some 20,000 years for the world population to produce 200 million people the old fashioned way. To contrast, Facebook took merely five years to acquire its 200 millionth active user. In its process of making it normal to trigger a somewhat medieval "add as a Friend" request and to "poke" a friend and redefining social normalcy, Facebook grew to a mammoth global population of over 628 million users. That is almost twice the population of the mighty United States of America. In the same span of time, Twitter grew to a milestone of "190 million visitors, generating some 65 million tweets a day," as confirmed by Twitter COO Dick Costolo, at the Conversational Media Summit earlier part of this year. A little closer to home, a good 448,000 of us in this island of 5 million are on Twitter. Chances are, your boss is monitoring your angsty tweets as we speak....
