"#Disabled students need access to infocomm technology too": #a11y #accessibility

IN RESPONSE to the article "Schools still not using technology effectively" (April 7), a further aspect of the push to introduce technology in our schools is the consideration of students with disabilities. Future Schools are the test-beds to determine how technology can be best incorporated in the education system. Teachers and students are expected to benefit from the potential of infocomm technology (ICT) to enhance teaching through innovative pedagogy and flexible environments. The aim is to ultimately equip students to be savvy users of ICT by the time they join the workforce. The challenge, however, is ensuring ICT is accessible to all. For students with disabilities to access the increasing use of ICT in schools, assistive technology is critical.
