Kangaroo castrated while alive: Australian police

MELBOURNE: Australian police on Tuesday were investigating an incident in which a kangaroo was hit by a car and then apparently castrated while still alive. The animal is believed to have been injured when it was struck by a vehicle late Saturday or early Sunday in Yarrambat northeast of Melbourne, but someone then mutilated it, reportedly taking its genitalia as a souvenir. "The missing body parts have not been recovered after a search of the area and may have been taken by the offender(s)," police said in a statement. A Victorian wildlife volunteer told reporters that the animal was still alive and moving its head when she arrived on the scene. "He looked at me and other rescuers as if to say 'I've had enough pain ... just put me down'," Laurelle Erwin said.
