Singapore is not directly impacted by Japan's raising of its nuclear emergency rating: Govt

Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (Nisa) had raised its rating of the situation at the Fukushima nuclear plant from 5 to 7 on Tuesday. -- PHOTO: AP THE Government has assured the public in a statement that Singapore is not directly impacted by Japan's change in the emergency rating of the situation at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (Nisa) had raised its rating of the situation at the nuclear plant from 5 to 7 on Tuesday. The decision to raise the rating came after a re-evaluation of an earlier assessment of the accident. The rating is based on the total amount of radioactivity released to the environment from the nuclear plant. However, the Government noted that an increase in the rating does not show the situation has worsened - radiation levels in various prefectures have not shown any significant changes over the pas...
