ADELAIDE - An Australian woman who accidentally burned her unfaithful husband to death after planning to torch his genitals to purify him was given a suspended sentence yesterday for manslaughter. The judge determined she had snapped following decades of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her husband. Rajini Narayan, 46, set fire to her husband, Mr Satish Narayan, on Dec 8, 2008, after she discovered that he had had an affair. During the trial, she said she had planned to use petrol and a candle to burn a mark onto Satish's genitals in an attempt to purify him. He swore at her and turned away, she said, and she responded by throwing the petrol and candle onto his back. He later died from the burns. South Australian Supreme Court Justice John Sulan sentenced Narayan to six years in jail, then suspended it, saying she had already suffered enough. Prosecutors in...
