Musician Gilberto Gil just lets his music do the talking

Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira, better known as Gilberto Gil, has not only been putting Brazilian music on the world map - some have credited him for founding the tropicalia movement - he's also used his position in the music hemisphere to push efforts in the political arena, firstly as an activtist and then later as Brazil's Minister of Culture from 2003 to 2008. Unlike some other renown Brazilian musicians, the singer-songwriter, who turns 69 this year, hasn't focussed only on one particular musical style. Instead he incorporates an eclectic range of influences, including rock and jazz alongside Brazilian genres that include samba, African music and reggae. And fans can get to see just how music moves him this Sunday when he performs at the Esplanade Concert Hall as part of the Mosaic series. Here, Gilberto talks about his passion.
