Effects of Social Media on the 2011 Singapore General Elections: The influence that social media is having on Si...

The influence that social media is having on Singaporeans cannot be ignored by any politician during this election and in all future elections. Singapore has known to censor anti PAP views but this would be almost impossible with the sheer amount of blogs, information, articles and comments being published on the internet everyday. Of course the easy thing to do would be for the agencies backing the PAP to block access to all these web forums including the ever popular Facebook networking site. However, any reasonable government would know that such a move will almost certainly backfire. Supporters of the opposition have been quick to rejoice in the ability to use the internet as a platform for them to share their views that would almost never be published in the mainstream media.
