Online charity donation portal raises over S$5m

SINGAPORE: In just over a year, Singapore's largest charity donation portal, SG Gives, has raised raised over S$5 million online for Singapore charities. Most of the donations went to the social service sector (63 per cent) and the health sector (36 per cent). The portal is an initiative of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC). Over 200 charities have signed up to use it. While many donors make one donation each, some donors make multiple donations. For example, 43-year-old Mr Wong Cheng Yong made 80 donations to various charities. Since the "special occasions" feature was introduced in July last year, donors have given over S$140,000 in memory of loved ones, on occasion of job promotion, company and wedding anniversaries, and birthdays. In 2010, SG Gives worked with the CPF Board so that people who received their payouts for GST Credits and Senior Citizens'...
