S'pore shares end 0.28% lower

SINGAPORE : Shares in Singapore on Monday ended weaker in thin trading ahead of announcements of corporate earnings in the coming weeks. Dealers said sentiment was also affected in the afternoon by losses on European markets. The Straits Times Index fell 8.92 points, or 0.28 per cent, to close at 3,144.38. Volume traded totalled 1.25 billion shares worth S$1.36 billion. Declining issues led gainers by 309 to 158. Some of the worst performers included banks, following China's call for an increase of reserves - the fourth this year - for banks operating in China. DBS Bank and OCBC dropped 10 cents each to S$14.56 and S$9.59 respectively, while United Overseas Bank lost 2 cents to S$19.56. Singapore Airlines gained 6 cents to S$14.14, City Developments rose 4 cents to S$11.64, and NOL fell 4 cents to S$1.90.
