MR TIMOTHY Yeo is $20,000 richer - just from deciding to stop buying The Straits Times (ST) daily from a newsstand and taking up a subscription directly from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) instead. Mr Yeo, who is in his late 20s and works in the IT industry, is the first of up to four 'direct' subscribers to win cash prizes from lucky draws held in conjunction with ST's subscription drive. Besides netting new direct subscribers like Mr Yeo, SPH is persuading existing subscribers who have signed up with news vendors to switch to subscribing directly. News vendors still earn the same income with this switch, but will deal with SPH's circulation department as a single point of contact on all customer service issues, such as feedback and making payments.
