Our reader says: "I have been a StarHub customer for the last three years... Most of the time, it's self help."

I READ with interest last Saturday's report ("StarHub board grilled over pay and age"). It is heartening to note that someone had pointed out this issue. Why would a large telco like StarHub need to recruit non-Singaporean customer service staff when they could have paid better salaries to locals instead? I have been a StarHub customer for the last three years and have observed that foreign sales staff and hotline staff lack the local touch and knowledge of our culture and demands. Most of the time, it's self help. Instead of paying extreme salaries to directors, the company should review its human resource policies and recruit locals with a more decent and attractive package. This in turn will translate to better service. Ultimately, the company benefits in terms of increased revenue from higher sales and customer retention.
