Foreign investment in Indonesia rises 11.6% in Q1 - Straits Times

JAKARTA - FOREIGN direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia rose 11.6 per cent in the first quarter of 2011 from a year before as strong economic growth and abundant natural resources attracted investors. FDI from January to March was 39.5 trillion rupiah (S$5.7 billion), up from 35.4 trillion rupiah in the first quarter of 2010, the country's investment board (BKPM) said on Wednesday. Almost a quarter of this went into mining, BKPM officials told a news conference. 'This shows investor confidence starting to materialise,' said Azhar Lubis, an official with responsibility for the investment climate. 'Internally, the government has improved investment facilities and procedures. Now we serve investors who come here.'
