The work-life balance is not recognised enough in Singapore, says a reader. Do you agree?

I refer to the letter "Some ways to lure the stork" (June 30). While I agree that amenities and facilities such as infant care and childcare centres need to be in place, the underlying problem is support, or rather, lack of support. And key to this is that families are not seen as priority in the eyes of a Singaporean. Look at the work ethic of Singaporeans. I have friends who tell me they cannot leave work earlier than the boss even if their work is done and it is past their working hours as the boss will have a bad impression of them and label them as "slackers". My relative in Switzerland, on the other hand, tells me that if anyone stays beyond the working hours, they will be chased out of the office to go home and be "a good family man".
