Malaysia to issue soft loans to poor soon

Ipoh (The Star/ANN) - The Malaysian government is studying a new approach to enable those in the low-income group to invest in Amanah Saham 1Malaysia. Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said under the approach , a soft loan would be provided for the group. "It is to give opportunities to the rakyat (people), especially the poor, to be investors," he said. Speaking before launching the Saham Amanah Malaysia Week 2011 here, Najib said the introduction of such schemes would safeguard the future of the poor. Later, Najib said he had discussed the matter with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) to enable the poor to go into the scheme with low investment. "We are looking into a scheme where the poor can be given a loan and they could pay back through dividends announced by PNB," he said.
