Kenapa dia kesini? - Romanian fraud fugitive extradited from Indonesia - AsiaOne
BUCHAREST, Romania - A Romanian fugitive convicted in a sensational fraud scandal that saw tens of thousands lose money was extradited overnight Friday from Indonesia, Romanian news agencies reported. Nicolae Popa was sentenced in 2006 to 15 years in prison for fraud in connection with the collapse of an investment fund. The sentence was confirmed on appeal in 2009. More than 100,000 people lost money they had invested in the National Investment Fund and the Romanian state, which had guaranteed their investments, was forced to pay out compensation. Popa fled to Indonesia shortly after the collapse of the fund. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed a decree permitting his extradition at the beginning of April.
