'Ideal for women to form one-third of Parliament'

PEOPLE'S Action Party (PAP) Women's Wing chief Lim Hwee Hua would like women to represent a third of Parliament, but recognises that it is a difficult goal to achieve. Although women are not shying away from politics because they do not care, many have to juggle their work and family commitments, said Mrs Lim, who is Singapore's first woman minister. She was speaking to reporters at the launch of the new vision and mission of the Women's Wing, aimed at engaging more women from all walks of life in discussing policy issues. The Women's Wing will focus on six key areas: work-life balance, being pro-active in policy discussions, marriage and parenthood trends, reaching out to the poor, active ageing and raising the leadership representation of women.
