SINGAPORE - Tampines Eco Green opened to the public today, drawing over 700 students and residents in the east. The soft opening, which was organised by the National Parks Board (NParks) in celebration of the International Year of Forests and Eart Day, featured interactive activities such as guided walks and hedge-building. The launch was attended by advisors to Tampines Grassroots Organisations Mr Mah Bow Tan, Mr Masagos Sulkifli, Ms Irene Ng, Mr Ong Kian Min, Mr Sin Boon Ann and special guests Mr Steve Tan and Mr Heng Swee Keat. The eco-friendly design of the park incorporated recycled materials and environmentally-friendly products in its development. Tampines Eco Green is also the first public park in Singapore to have an eco-toilet which breaks down human waste using bacteria and wood shavings and converts it into compost.
