This article is not accurate. The iPhone doesn't transmit any of the location data to it's servers. The location data is recorded on the phone and is used by applications that the user has specifically granted permission to use it. Apple has never tried to cover up the fact that the phone does this and you can turn off location services if you choose to do so. I'm not sure why the location data needs to be stored for long periods of time and what purpose it has in being part of the phone backup. You can always encrypt the backup if you want to. Based on all the information that is collected in every device that connects to the internet, anonymous location data is the least of your worries. I trust Apple. Google, however, is a different story. They have made their fortunes by collecting data on it's users and selling it to anyone with the cash to pay for it. How do you thin...
