Malacca to reward civil servants who quit smoking

MALACCA - STATE government employees who give up smoking within a fixed time frame can look forward to a reward package which includes promotion, vacations, electrical appliances and special cash payments. Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said that under the proposed package, civil servants must quit smoking during a stipulated period to qualify for rewards. 'I will discuss with my senior officials on the details of the package that will be attractive to tobacco addicts in the government departments and agencies to quit smoking. 'We will make public the offers that can be expected under the package,' he told The Star here yesterday. The minister said a committee, comprising state government officials and representatives from non-governmental agencies, would be established to spearhead the quit-smoking programme among civil servants.
