SINGAPORE - Ahead of the May 7 General Election, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew today issued a statement telling Singaporeans: "In the heat and dust of this election, remember, do not risk your assets, property values, job opportunities. Vote for men and women of proven character and track records of high performance. Make the right choice, to secure the future of your children and grandchildren." The statement, in full, reads: "In the heat, dust and clamour of our election campaigns, there will be many statements and counter-statements. My one simple message is: Look at the fundamentals. "The PAP is fielding 24 new candidates. Amongst them are at least five heavyweights, people with proven strength of character and capabilities.
