Tilt PMET job opportunities in favour of locals

I refer to the report "How foreign workers have helped Singapore: PM" (April 22). Most Singaporeans are not against the influx of work permit holders who fill jobs which Singaporeans shunned, such as cleaning, waiting on tables, or in transport, construction, shipyard/dock, retail sales, etc. Unfortunately, the influx in recent years of mid-level skilled workers (under the S-Pass) has taken up PMET jobs that Singaporeans are well-qualified to do and want to do. This inevitably leads to unease, particularly among mature local workers who have also had to deal with structural unemployment and age discrimination. I know of one foreign company which has about 30 offfice employees and only 2 are Singaporeans.
