(TODAY) Minister calls for renewed efforts to better service standards

SINGAPORE - Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Manpower Lee Yi Shyan on Monday called for renewed efforts to improve service standards. "We still can be better and must press on with our efforts to raise service excellence," he said. Mr Lee noted that according to the Department of Statistics' latest Economic Survey, Singapore's retail sector employed 114,900 workers and had total operating sales of S$38.2 billion in 2009. It contributed about 2 per cent to the GDP in 2009. Mr Lee was speaking at the Customer-Centric Initiative (CCI) learning journey at VivoCity. Beside pointing out the economic importance of the retail sector, he highlighted its social significance, saying it can build and reinforce positive social norms on a daily basis.
