PM Lee: Govt will not let status of Mandarin slip #SGelections

A TASK force under the Chinese Liason Group will be set up after the election, to groom the next generation of bilingual and bi-cultural Chinese community leaders, Prime Minister Lee told Lianhe Zaobao in an interview published on Tuesday. It will be led by PAP candidate Sim Ann, a President's Scholar and former top civil servant. Her mother is prominent Chinese author Choo Lian Liang. The group will also include six or seven other bilingual new PAP candidates. In addition to grooming young Chinese community leaders, the task force will find new ways to promote Chinese language and culture, as well as 'matchmake' immigrant and local Chinese. Mr Lee said the Government will not let the status of Chinese language and culture here slip, even as the last generation of Nanyang University graduates reach their 60s.
