Japan's PM thanks S'pore for assistance following quake - Channel NewsAsia:

SINGAPORE : Tokyo has thanked Singapore for its assistance following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last month. In a letter sent to the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a copy of which was distributed to the media on Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan expressed his "heartfelt thanks" to the government and the people of Singapore. Mr Kan also vowed to "repay" the help Japan received from Singapore and other countries. The letter is titled "Kizuna", the Japanese term for bonds of friendship. It ends with the affirmation that "a friend in need is a friend indeed". Singapore's assistance was given in the form of a S$500,000 donation from the Singapore Red Cross, deployment of search specialists and search dogs, as well as relief supplies estimated at S$300,000.
