Steve Tan dropped out for personal reasons #SGelections

UNIONIST Steve Tan said he made the 'hard' decision to drop out of General Election 2011 only on Tuesday. But the 37-year-old executive secretary of Young NTUC, the union movement's youth wing, declined to say why. He told The Straits Times on Wednesday: 'It's personal and I would rather it remain private for now.' He added: 'When I was first asked to consider, I took a few months to consider. There were several considerations. It took a while to pan out. I decided that there were certain considerations that were pretty personal and I thought a better way would be to not take up the invitation to run at this point.' He was to have been fielded in Tampines GRC, to replace outgoing MP Ong Kian Min. Mr Mah Bow Tan, who heads that GRC, said he was 'very disappointed'.
