Mica seeks balance for data privacy - AsiaOne #InfoSec

WHILE United States, European and Asian lawmakers are taking issue with Apple's iPhone handset and iPad tablet tracking users' whereabouts, the Singapore authorities say they are in the midst of drafting new data- protection legislation. A Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (Mica) spokesman told my paper on Wednesday night that the Government was looking into how mobile service providers can leverage on customers' data for innovative services, while complying with data-protection requirements. "However, as we are still in the process of drafting the proposed data-protection legislation, we are unable to confirm if such activities will contravene the proposed law," she said, referring to mobile service providers using customers' data.
