FOUR lawyers who paid more than $1.4 million to a mortgage-broking firm in return for conveyancing work were found guilty of professional misconduct in a probe by a disciplinary tribunal. Appointed by Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong, it recommended that all four be dealt with by a Court of Three Judges - the legal profession's highest disciplinary body - where they face stiffer penalties such as suspension or being struck off. This is the first case where a mortgage-broking firm - Asprez - was apparently created to refer and recommend cases to a law firm in return for a payout.
