AirAsia to reimpose fuel surcharge on all flights

Southeast Asia' s biggest budget carrier AirAsia said Friday it will reimpose fuel surcharges on almost all its flights, caving in to pressure from escalating jet fuel prices. The move comes less than three years since AirAsia abolished fuel surcharges in November 2008. AirAsia said it was forced to reintroduce the fee after jet fuel, which is sold at a premium to crude oil , breached $140 a barrel amid instability in the Middle East. "We hope that this will only be a temporary measure, and AirAsia will continue to ensure our fares remain low despite the fuel surcharge, which is the lowest in the world," AirAsia's regional head of commerce Kathleen Tan said in a statement. Flights booked before May 3 will not be affected, the statement said. No all flights will be affected.
