China's progress not a threat, says Premier Wen Jiabao

JAKARTA: China's progress is inextricably linked to the rest of the world and will not pose a threat to anyone, emphasised Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during his three-day official visit to Jakarta. Speaking in Jakarta at the end of a three day official visit, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao also reiterated that Beijing's foreign policy will respect independence, sovereignty and peace - which the Chinese have been abiding by for centuries. The Chinese premier's visit was a week before Jakarta hosts the ASEAN Summit, and thus took the opportunity to drive home the point about Beijing's conduct in the region, especially on overlapping claims it has with a number of ASEAN countries in the South China Sea.
