This letter is WIN. “RT @danielgoh: Trees or mushrooms? An arborist speaks up. #sgelections”

I attended the People's Action Party (PAP) rally for Moulmein-Kallang GRC on Friday evening. I am particularly intrigued by the "tree and mushrooms" story told by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Information, Communication and the Arts. He drew an analogy between how villagers were attracted to the pretty mushrooms which sprouted every five years and how the electorate is enticed by the Opposition parties. He cautioned voters not to be tempted by the pretty mushrooms as the mushrooms could be poisonous. He urged voters not to remove the special trees which have "protected and sheltered" the village for many years to allow the pretty mushrooms to grow. His message was clear. But to me, as a trained arborist, his story has a different twist. Though the special trees have been serving the village for many years, we must not neglect or be complacent about the health of the trees....
