WP candidates slam ministers' shortcomings #SGelections

WORKERS' Party (WP) candidates at a rally in Bedok Stadium on Saturday night criticised East Coast GRC incumbents Raymond Lim and Lee Yi Shyan, both office-holders in government, for shortcomings under their watch. Mr Yee Jenn Jong, 46, who is standing in Joo Chiat single-member constituency, said the Government had not done enough to encourage entrepreneurship in Singapore. Mr Yee, an entrepreneur, said Mr Lee, who is the minister in charge of Entrepreneurship, has put too much focus on 'meeting key performance indicators' for businesses, and failed to make grants more accessible to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). He added that there are too many government-linked companies (GLCs) crowding out the local companies. 'I feel strongly that GLCs should not compete mindlessly with all areas of players,' he said.
