Tornado-struck communities in the southern US face daunting recovery after disaster claims nearly 350 lives

'We're still in search and recovery mode,' said an official with the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) of Alabama, the state hardest hit by the tornadoes that struck with pulverising force, leaving in their wake the second deadliest disaster of its kind in US history.
