TODAY: PM's condolence letter spurred Kenneth Jeyaretnam to join politics #sgelections #sgelection

SINGAPORE - It was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's condolence letter to Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam (picture), when his father died in 2008, that spurred him to enter politics, the Reform Party (RP) chief revealed at its rally last night. Mr Jeyaretnam recalled that in the letter, Mr Lee had noted that his father had sought by all means to demolish the PAP and its system of government and "therefore he had to be destroyed." Mr Jeyaretnam spent time at the start of the rally tracing the political journey and achievements of the late Mr Joshua Benjamin Jeyaretnam's - something he had not done at the first rally on Thursday. The senior Mr Jeyaretnam was the first person to break the PAP's monopoly of post-independence Parliament in 1981 and in 1997 came close to beating the PAP in the Cheng San Group Representation Constituency (GRC). He became bankrupt because of defamation suits...
