First Singapore tour group sets off for Japan after March 11 quake: Prime Travel & Tour saw some 3000 cancellati...

SINGAPORE - A group of 21 Singaporean tourists (picture) set off for Japan on Friday evening for a trip organised by a local tour agency. They are said to be the first tour group to go there seven weeks after the earthquake and tsunami hit the country on March 11. The number of tourists visiting Japan fell significantly after the disaster but tour agencies here are hopeful that this first tour group will encourage more Singaporeans to visit the country. Tour participant Tan Tai Chong said: "Everything should be normal by now and, according to my son's feedback, there is nothing worrying because they have earthquakes every now and then. It's very common to them. So, it's quite safe at this moment." The tour participants are provided with GPS phones and torch lights as well as first-aid kits. They will visit the Mt Fuji area and Tokyo during the trip and will be flying back ...
