Politician 'may have aided Jakarta bomb suspect' - TODAYonline

JAKARTA - Indonesia's national police said yesterday that a politician may have been behind the foiled plot to bomb a Jakarta church on Good Friday, reports the Jakarta Globe. The police had earlier identified Pepi Fernando, 30, as the mastermind behind the planned bombing of a church on April 22, as well as the mail bombs sent to prominent figures. Pepi, a former member of the Indonesian Islamic State movement, was arrested in Aceh. According to an unnamed police source investigating the case, Pepi had "a close relationship with a politician" who "had knowledge of Pepi's plan". Pepi has confessed that he was part of a new terror cell but the police spokesman, Chief Commander Boy Rafli Amar, said there is more he is not telling.
