GE: New economic problems have set in post crisis, says Tharman

SINGAPORE : Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said that a new set of economic problems have set in post-global crisis - inflation is on the rise in many countries with commodity and oil prices spiralling higher as well. Speaking at a lunchtime PAP rally on Tuesday, he also said that no one can say for sure how much higher prices of these items will rise going forward. The minister said that though Singapore has come out of the economic slowdown there are a new set of global problems. He cautioned that the world economy is one shock away from a major crisis and issues in the Middle East remains a concern as events there can have an impact on oil and commodity prices. He said the problems of the global economic crisis are not over, and anticipated that there will be more challenges in many years to come.
