THE Government will review the monthly income ceiling for new Housing Board flats after the elections, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said on Tuesday. The new ceiling could be as high as $10,000, up from the current $8,000 ceiling, which has been in place since 1994. Mr Mah told reporters after a walkabout in Tampines on Tuesday afternoon that rising wages have prompted a relook at the present policy, especially after the National Wage Council's (NWC) recent recommendation for employers to hike wages further. The income ceiling for flats under the more premium Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) was raised last year from $8,000 to $10,000 to cater to the 'sandwiched' middle-income group, but the Government decided not to tweak the policy for new Build-to-Order flats at that time to avoid drawing more demand into the 'very hot' market, Mr Mah said.
