Opposition raising Malay-Muslim issues to fish votes #SGelections

MINISTER-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim on Wednesday dismissed the efforts by some opposition candidates to raise Malay-Muslim issues as attempts to fish votes from the community. He was responding to comments by Workers' Party's Aljunied GRC Pritam Singh on Sunday that self-help group Mendaki was not doing enough to help Malay students academically. Dr Yaacob, who is leading a four-man People's Action Party team to contest in Moulmein-Kallang GRC, made it clear the the PAP does not use the problems of the Malay community to get into politics. Rather, the PAP's Malay-Muslim candidates enter politics to tackle these challenges. Appealing to the Malay-Muslim community to look beyond the 'sound and fury and the rhetoric' to recognise how far they have progressed, he said: 'I'm confident we'll see many more peaks'.
