RP says PAP is making politics 'a rich man's game' #SGelections
REFORM Party chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam accused the People's Action Party of making politics a 'rich man's game'. Speaking to the rally crowd at Clementi Stadium on Wednesday night, he gave the example of the election deposit for candidates, which was raised to $16,000 from $14,500. But the power of new media allowed one of its candidates to raise funds online for his deposit, he added. RP's Ang Mo Kio candidate Alex Tan reportedly raised $32,000 two days before Nomination Day through shoutouts on Facebook. 'The PAP wanted politics to be a rich man's game but now, thanks to the power of Facebook and the Internet we can overcome those hurdles, so change is coming to Singapore,' Mr Jeyaretnam said.
