Post-election impact will be larger, says panel #SGelections

THE results of Saturday's polls are important but what will have a larger impact on Singaporeans is what happens in the aftermath of the general election, said panellists at a forum on Thursday. Singaporeans would be looking to how government leaders respond to the results, said communications professional Basskaran Nair, while academic Cherian George said it would come down to who could 'seize the numbers and tell a compelling story out of it'. How the government 'unifies the electorate' would be a challenge, as people have become more partisan than ever before, said Singapore Press Holdings Editor-in-Chief of the English and Malay Newspapers Division Patrick Daniel, who chaired a lunchtime discussion on the election organised by the Singapore Press Club at the SPH News Centre.
