A new chapter and a time for healing #sgelections

SINGAPORE - After nine days of unprecedented battle, a new chapter in Singapore's history was written last night - even as the call from the Prime Minister went out for a "time for healing" to begin. For the 11th successive General Election since independence, the People's Action Party (PAP) was returned to power with an overwhelming majority, but it was the Workers' Party that wrote itself into the history books - by capturing, for the first time, a Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Moving forward, Mr Lee Hsien Loong said that it was "time for healing and for acceptance of the people's decisions - not just for the PAP but for all Singaporeans". "Political contest goes on in every country in one form or another but in Singapore we must make sure it's harnessed for the good ... to make Singapore stronger and never to divide us.
